Absa has announced the appointment of David Wandera as the new managing director. Over the last five months, Wandera has been acting in interim capacity following the resignation of Mumba Kalifungwa to join Stanbic Bank as CEO.
Wandera, who has over 20 years of experience in banking, has held senior roles in leadership, strategic initiatives, and financial management. His expertise includes treasury and markets management, accounting, and financial risk management, the bank said.
Keith Kalyegira, the Board Chairman, said: “David brings to this role a deep understanding of the evolving needs of our customers, coupled with a proven track record of leadership, integrity, and innovation. The Board is confident that under his stewardship, Absa Bank Uganda will continue to strengthen its market position, drive meaningful growth, and deliver long-term value to all our stakeholders.”
Wandera has served as Executive Director and Head of Markets for Absa. He is a Chartered Accountant (FCCA-UK) and holds a Master’s degree in International Finance from the University of Leeds
