President Yoweri Museveni has given out over 10,000 chicks to different households in Wakiso district's Nansana municipality as startup capital to kick poverty out of their homes. Residents who registered for the project received 100 chicks each and a bag of pre-starter feeds to start the poultry project.

Project co-ordinator Rita Kizito Nalongo aka Tukole Obubina, said they have already given out over 70,000 chicks in the municipality.

“The project is nonpartisan: We are giving the chicken to people regardless of their political affiliations as long as they have a national identity card,” Kizito said.

The residents received the last batch of chicks at St Stephen Church of Uganda, Nansana, on April 30, 2025, where they converged. The exercise was overseen by Nansana assistant Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Judith Namara, who represented the RDC Charles Lwanga.

The President has put in place various poverty alleviation initiatives, including the Operation Wealth Creation.
