Vision Group’s Chief Executive Officer, Don Wanyama, has implored Ugandans to support local factories through buying their products.

Manufacturing is one of the areas where Uganda has registered tremendous progress from only 80 factories in 1986 to currently more than 5000 factories located in various parts of the country.

The call was made today (Wednesday) during a guided tour of MMI Steel Uganda Ltd, a steel manufacturing factory that manufactures iron sheets commonly known as Kiboko on the local market.

During the tour of the factory’s main operation area in Jinja, Wanyama implored citizens to buy locally manufactured products to support the government's initiative of Buy Uganda Build Uganda (BUBU).

BUBU is one of the government's strategies aimed at supporting local production and boosting the country's economy.

According to Wanyama, this initiative can only achieve its objectives if Ugandans prioritise buying locally produced products such as the ones manufactured by MMI Steel Uganda Ltd in Walukuba area in Jinja town.

"We have local companies like MMI producing high quality products for both local and international markets in the region which Ugandans should buy to support the government's initiatives of promoting local production," Wanyama stated.

On behalf of Vision Group, Wanyama pledged to support the company's arrangements to promote their products to the public by giving visibility through its various platforms (including print, radio, TV and social media).

On his part, Heramb Kumthekar, the CEO at MMI, pledged to use the partnership (established between his company and Vision Group) to communicate their products to their customers and promote the company’s projects.

Kumthekar invited Vision Group for a tour of the factory to provide an opportunity to showcase their contributions to the steel industry and discuss potential areas of collaboration that can further strengthen business relations between the two entities.
