Over 60 Makerere lecturers promoted, rehired

Several academic and administrative staff members have been recognised with new appointments and promotions at the institution.

Makerere University management has appointed and rehired a total of 63 staff members across various academic and administrative positions, including professors, associate professors, senior lecturers, lecturers, assistant lecturers, and key roles within the university’s administration.

The university appointments board made this decision at its continuation of the 761st meeting on May 22, 2025.

The list shared to New Vision Online on May 27, 2025, signed by chief human resource officer Deus Tayari Mujuni, shows that five of the appointments are new, eight are post-retirement contracts, 10 are contract appointments, while 40 are promotions.

Several academic and administrative staff members have been recognised with new appointments and promotions at the institution.

According to the university spokesperson Betty Kyakuwa, these appointments and promotions reflect the institution’s ongoing commitment to academic growth, leadership development, and excellence in service delivery.

Makerere University's Appointments Board is part of the University Council, which is responsible for matters related to staff appointments, promotions, removal from service, and discipline. 

The University Council, of which the Appointments Board is a part, is the supreme governing body and policy-making body of Makerere University.
