Brazilian artiste and cellist Diego Carneiro is in Uganda for a music tour. He came at the invitation of the Rotary Club of Uganda and has been part of their charity concerts that are aimed at boosting peace and education programmes.
On May 7, he held a charity concert at the National Theatre, alonsgide Ugandan legendary artiste Albert Sempeke, a musician for Kabaka Mutesa 11 and lived in Uganda during his time.
Carneiro said he came to Uganda to support Rotary programmes because the country became a peace builder for other neighbouring countries.
Robert Musiitwa, the public relations officer of the Uganda National Cultural Centre, expressed excitement about Carneilo's music.
"He does classical music fused with traditional music and he has a unique product. As UNCC - the National theatre, we are proud of such initiatives. The world has become a global village where an artiste from one continent can easily collaborate with another from another continent and that's what will make a global product," he said.
He noted that such products result into cultural exchange, where artistes get an opportunity to appreciate each other's cultures and exposure.
"It was amazing to see Sempeke with his local musical instrument and Diego with his Western instrument share the stage. It's a true fusion of cultures," Musiitwa added.
