Kampala Serena Hotel was abuzz on November 23, 2024, as the 3rd edition of the Silverback Awards Gala unfolded, celebrating exceptional achievements in Uganda's communication and marketing landscape.
Organized by the Uganda Advertising Association (UAA), The Loeries, and the Uganda Marketers Association (UMA), the event revolved around the theme "Innovative Sustainable Marketing: Harnessing Ethics, Impact, and Profitability in the Digital Era."
The gala, themed “Guardians of the Grind,” recognized outstanding contributions in the communication industry, drawing 170 applicants and awarding 89 winners across categories.
Rommel Jasi, President of UAA, highlighted the essence of the gala as more than a glamorous evening.
“Tonight, we celebrate the pinnacle of excellence, creativity, innovation, and collaboration in the communications industry,” Jasi said.

“This event is about honoring the passion and dedication of the individuals and teams who drive this sector forward.” Jasi also applauded the young "Silverbacks" featured during the communication symposium earlier in the week. Their innovative ideas showcased the future of the communication industry, inspiring attendees with fresh perspectives and bold approaches.
Preetesh Sewraj, CEO of The Loeries, underscored the critical role of brand communication in transforming society. “Brand communication isn’t just about selling products. It’s about creating solutions and making an impact,” Sewraj remarked.
He highlighted how communicators played a pivotal role during the pandemic, ensuring critical information about vaccines and medications reached communities. “The awards represent more than recognition, they ensure Ugandan society continues to experience top-tier, transformative communication that makes a difference,” he added.
The evening featured several categories, including Live Events and Sponsorships, Effective Creativity, Media Campaigns, Design, Film, Social Good, Digital social media,and more.
Notably, The Quollective agency dominated the evening, taking home six awards, including four golds. Their innovative campaign for Uganda Waragi Lemon and Gin, launched at the Nyege Nyege Festival 2023, swept categories like Design, Film, Film Crafts, and Digital Social Media Influencer and integrated campaign.
