A water tank tower (stand) is usually one of the neglected spots in some homes.
But it can be embellished into a functional and decorative nook. The space can then be used to transform the outdoors.
A nook is a small, secluded spot where one can relax.
Rinita Jain, a flower enthusiast in Bukoto, Kampala turned her tank tower into a garden space.
It is in the backyard, overlooking the dining room.
She enhanced it with potted hanging plants in different colours. The plants disguise the stand beautifully.
Jain also added different sized pots around the stand. Some hold creeping plants that are entwined on the metallic poles.
Similarly, Ameria Momo Masiko, a resident of Nalya adorned her water tank tower.
She planted a flower garden underneath using hollow blocks. It is marred with splashes of colour from the mixed blooms including mums, daisies, roses and bromeliads.
“It was an idle space in the backyard that I decided to turn into a colourful spot. It is an extension of my front yard garden,” she explains.
Moureen Nakabuye, an interior organizer and landscaper says, this nook can be a Do It yourself (DIY) project any homeowner can work on.
“You don’t need to hire a designer. You can design this yourself and save; brick by brick,” she advises.
If you don’t have pots, repurpose what you already have and you are good to go.
For a reading nook, after adding the plants, simply place a chair beside the stand.
“A garden is where all the magic happens. I love to create nooks with views to relax and enjoy,” she adds.
Andrew Mpenja, another designer adds that nooks are an excellent way of making sense of personal style at home.
