Dancehall artiste Beenie Gunter, real name Crescent Baguma, has emphasised that he has never failed or faded. He said he only suffered a setback, but he has a big position in this music industry.
After a tumultuous two years, including a recent stint in a United Arab Emirates jail, he is focused on reviving his music career.
The Pon Mi singer is set to headline the inaugural Guntalk Fest on September 21 at the Garden City Rooftop, Kampala. The event, organised in partnership with Talent Africa Group, promises to be an exciting fusion of Ugandan and Jamaican cultures.
On Tuesday June 11, 2024 in one-on-one interview, Beenie bemoaned the people in the industry who celebrated his arrest in the United Arab Emirates.
“I want to let people know that I have never failed. I am not a poor artiste. I made my money and planned for it well. I am still working. I am not a faded artiste as many of you say. My music is relevant and is still doing well. I am booked highly for foreign concerts," he stated.
Beenie stated that he is young and energetic with all chances to shine.
He vowed to release an album featurning Jamaican stars.
"I do not blame whoever said I faded. If the President can have challenges in his office, then who I am? I appreciate all my fans and friends who stood with me when I had issues in the Middle East. Thank you for the love," Beenie said.
Aly Alibhai of Talent Africa Group urged Ugandans to support Beenie at his Guntalk Fest.
“Beenie Gunter's music is a sound of international market, where we can sell our Ugandan music to limit Jamaican and Nigerians from importing their music here. The event promises an immersive experience, blending music, fashion, food, dance, and great vibes. Let us give Bennie time as a young and energetic artiste to reach his life targets. We have trust in him and he will make it international one day. (Singer) Kenzo made wanders and now he is mature and responsible. We need more people like him to keep our international position," Alibhai said.
Beenie has collaborated with other artistes such as Eddy Kenzo and Sheebah Karungi, Jamaican dancehall artistes Nyanda, Kranium, The Kemist, Gyptian, Beenie Man and Nigerian rapper Skales. He has also performed on numerous stages, including Jamaican Major Lazer's Kampala concert in October 2018 and Nyege Nyege Festival in 2019, and other stages.
In March 2018, Beenie Gunter and Navio were signed to Talent Africa Group as their official booking agents. This relationship with Gunter was upgraded to a 360-management deal by Talent Africa Group in June 2019. Talent Africa Group hired ambassador to be his publicist and Chaggga, a former manager of Radio and Weasel, as his tour manager.
