I leave the children with my husband at night – Hellen Lukoma

With the debate of about women waking up in the dead of night to cook for husbands raging on social media, Hellen Lukoma has also offered her two cents.

The actress and singer says that she always lives the children with her husband, Anwar Kaka, when she works late. The debate, started by Andrew Kyamageero, has got responses from several celebrities.

“Whenever I have a show, I inform him, and he finds out the details; when, where, and what time. He plans and takes full responsibility for our children, caring for them at home when I'm away,” she said during an interview. The couple has been married for five years.

She adds that the husband supports her career physically and financially. Known more for her acting, Lukoma is also a singer and dancer. Kaka is a businessman who Lukoma describes as a “polite Muslim”.  

“When we met, it was like fire and ice. I am lively, talkative, and love going out, while he is a very humble Muslim,” she says. Both have not changed their lifestyles since their first meeting at the airport.

I used to have a shop at Mabirizi Complex and often traveled abroad, including to China, to shop for clothes. I met him at the airport. When he asked where I was going, I told him I was traveling for work, which shocked him because he didn't expect me to work like other ‘normal’ people.

We exchanged contacts. I gave him the wrong number unknowingly. Later, at a supermarket in Ntinda, I met him again, and he greeted me, reminding me of the wrong number incident. He asked for my number again, and I gave him the correct one.

“He called to confirm it wasn't another mistake. Afterwards, he offered me a ride. We traveled together to my place. We started talking as friends, and eventually, we began dating since I had just come out of a bad relationship. He patiently waited and requested for our first kiss after giving me the key to his house. That day marked the beginning of our romantic relationship, and now we are a married couple with children together," Lukoma narrated.
