Take it or leave it, choral music is still as popular as ever. Its popularity is also increasing from time to time, even in the face of the many challenges.

The increasing popularity of choral music was projected even more clearly during the 2nd Annual Classical Fusion Musical Recital organized by the Kampala Music Society at Kampala Serena Hotel on Sunday.

The concert, the first one since the opening of the economy, was graced by many lovers of classical music.

The show featured ten choirs, affiliated with different Christian denominations (Roman Catholic Church, Anglican Church, Seventh-Day Adventist Church).

The choirs that performed include St. Jude’s Choir (from Wakiso Catholic parish church), St. Apollo Kivebulaaya Church of Uganda Choir, Kansanga, St. Stephen’s Choir, Kanyanya, St. Dennis Choir (from Kitagobwa Catholic parish), The Heralds Choir Uganda (Adventist Church). Others were Kanyanya SDA Church Choir, St. Stephen’s Church of Uganda Choir, Munyonyo, Queen of Angels Choir Kasokoso, St Genesius Youth Choir, Lubaga Cathedral and Kampala East SDA Church choir.

The choirs performed relatively well. There were some technical imperfections, but they did not over-shadow the general blissful spectacle of the show and the zeal of the fans to support their respective choirs and ultimately uplift the ever-living classical music genre.

Emmanuel Zzinda, one of the organizers, said he was greatly impressed by the good turnout of the fans and the passion of the choristers to advance classical music.

James Galabuzi, another member of the Kampala Music Society called on individuals and corporate organizations to support classical music, saying it is the only activity which still has the power to bring people together.

The beautiful performance of the choirs was greatly enhanced by the skilful accompaniment of the Kampala Music Society Orchestra.
