If there is one thing Kampala’s cocktail lovers know how to do, it is celebrating the World Margarita Day.
They did it over the weekend, at The Alchemist in Bugolobi. The event saw an impressive turnout, with the city’s corporates, socialites and tequila enthusiasts coming together for a night of indulgence and crafted cocktails.
The venue was packed with well-dressed professionals, influencers, and cocktail lovers, all eager to raise their glasses in honor of the legendary margarita.
One of the highlights of the evening was an interactive margarita-making session led by Preston Okot, a top mixologist.
Guests, some in their sharp outfits and others in chic cocktail attire gathered around as Okot broke down the science of the perfect margarita.
Lucky attendees got a hands-on experience, carefully balancing Don Julio tequila, freshly squeezed lime juice, and triple sec, before finishing off their drinks with a salted rim.
The moment guests took their first sip, the excitement was undeniable. They marveled at how just a few carefully selected ingredients could create something so smooth, bold, and refreshing.
As the drinks flowed, the DJs turned up the heat with DJ Anslem delivering an electrifying mix of house, Afrobeat, and classic party anthems, keeping the energy high and the dance floor buzzing.
Laughter, clinking glasses, and cheers filled the air as revelers soaked in the soft ambiance, perfectly balancing day-drinking with sophisticated indulgence.
According to Simon Lapyem, the Innovations Manager at UBL, Uganda’s tequila culture has evolved significantly, shifting from being just a “party shot” to a sophisticated and appreciated spirit.
“Bringing World Margarita Day celebrations to Kampala has been an incredible experience. Seeing people mix their own drinks and celebrate with Don Julio is proof that tequila is no longer just for shots, it is now a refined drink of choice,” he said.
Celebrated annually on February 22, World Margarita Day is a time when cocktail lovers worldwide come together to honor the beloved drinks.
