Katikkiro condemns vulgar lyrics, indecent dressing among artistes

Buganda Kingdom premier (Katikkiro) Charles Peter Mayiga has condemned the use of vulgar words and indecent dressing among Ugandan musicians seeking fame.

“We urge artistes to showcase what they are doing decently without being vulgar or without dressing indecently,” he said.  

Mayiga made the call at Kampala Serena Hotel on Friday, July 26, 2024, during musician Iryn Namubiru’s show dubbed ‘A timeless experience’.  

He also urged artistes to have patience and develop talents well aware that a talent is a job.

The Katikkiro noted that Namubiru, who composes soothing music, has been singing for quite some time, which has helped her to develop her talent that is seen in the way her fans like her songs and her as a person.

“Namubiru has spent time singing and developing her talent and has shown determination. You have been seeing everyone appreciating and knowing her songs,” he later said on his X handle.

Mayiga also said artistes need to know that you cannot rise to fame in a month or a year. “It takes time to achieve fame. Therefore, avoid the excitement,” he implored the artistes.

Namubiru, who sings love songs, has been off the scene for a while, but she is one of the Ugandan music stars.

Her colleague in the music industry, Juliana Kanyomozi, was one of the celebrities that attended her show.

Kanyomozi also took to X on Sunday and exclaimed in delight: “My sister Namubiru, you killed it last night! Congratulations!”
