Miss Heritage to promote Buganda heritage, culture with elegance

Kulsum Najjuma 24, Buganda’s Miss Heritage 2024 is passionate about promoting the Kingdom’s cultural diversity and tourism. For that, she has embarked on a mission to represent her culture with pride and elegance, highlighting the different traditions and beauty of Buganda and Uganda at large.

She will support kingdom activities, cultural festivals and innovations throughout the kingdom, especially among the young people in schools and high institutions of learning.

Najjuma, a resident of Bukoto, Kampala district says, Buganda is endowed with rich cultural heritage and being Miss Heritage she strives to spread peace while celebrating different cultures and contributing to the development of the kingdom and Buganda tourism board.

“It's a joy to connect with people and share the beauty of cultural diversity,” she says.

“I participated in the pageant to create awareness about Buganda's culture and heritage,” she points out adding; “The pageant is a great platform to celebrate the beauty and diversity of Buganda's culture.”

Meanwhile, Miss Buganda Tourism pageant 2024/25 dubbed the Kaynela Edition, was held recently at Hotel Africana. It aimed to highlight the link between tourism and agriculture in Buganda.

Kisha Ruth Namale 22, from Kyaddondo beat 27 competitors to take the crown which came along with a brand new Toyota Ractis car among other prizes.

Miriam Zalwango from Buddu was First Runner-Up followed by Ruth Mitchell Bisoboka from Bugerere.

The competition was first held in all the 18 counties that make up Buganda kingdom and 28 girls reached the finals. The girls spent three weeks in the boot camp and engaged in different activities such as farming and sports.

Nagujja says the girls showcased their beauty, abilities, talent and knowledge of Buganda’s heritage and tourist attractions like food, music, language, dress code and behaviors.

“Girls should embrace their uniqueness and culture. Don't be afraid to chase your dream,” she says. 

At the event, Buganda’s minister for Gender Cotlida Nakate, who represented the Nnaabagereka Sylvia Nagginda, said the kingdom prioritizes promoting and protecting cultural norms which are built on several foundations including tourism.
