Music Review: Twookya – Spice Diana

22nd June 2024

Twookya was not a good idea, a hurriedly executed song that brought nothing new to the table and simply emphasised the fact that Spice Diana is not much of a singer. It is the type of song that will come back to bite her.

You were probably expecting this. Once Sheebah dropped the Sipimika Remix, Spice Diana was itching to bite back. Twookya was how she did it. A dancehall track with a very strong Afro pop built into it, it is the perfect vehicle for Spice Diana.

First things first, she is almost deliberately NOT trying to sound musical. Ironically, this sounds like the sort of track that Sheebah would pull off with ease. I am not sure Twookya was a good choice creatively for Spice Diana.

The lyrics are also a little more blatant – at one point she refers to a ‘fake feminist, fake everything’. Darn, this thing got nasty in a hurry. She wasn’t even trying to be subtle – at the end of the song she even jeers. It is a lot more blatant if you watch the music video for the song. Someone was angry. More importantly, it feels a little rushed.

The irony here is that the beef that brought all this about was based around Spice Diana’s singing, and Twookya has some of the worst singing she has gotten recorded. Even the lyricism is hurried, petulant – at one point she even bawls out: ‘Fake Swagga’. Yeah, she went that far.

Twookya was not a good idea, a hurriedly executed song that brought nothing new to the table and simply emphasised the fact that Spice Diana is not much of a singer. It is the type of song that will come back to bite her.
