The Mwiri League, Busoga College Mwiri's alumni competition, makes its comeback this Saturday at Kitante Primary School playground.
This edition, themed Afro and Amapiano, will be hosted by the Winter, Bootlickers, and Sasi cohorts. While the March outing leaned more toward entertainment than sport, this weekend promises a vibrant mix of both.
Founded in 2019 by Arthur Abaliwano and his 2003 cohort, the league has expanded from 18 to 22 teams competing in football and cricket. Teams are organised by graduating classes and named after popular slang from their school days.

The oldest squad, Ruga-Ruga FC (1911–1988), counts former Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda among its members, while the youngest, Wampa FC (2017), represents recent graduates.
Beyond competition, the league fosters networking, business opportunities, nostalgia, and fitness among alumni. The previous Match Day Six of Season Five honored departed members, drawing an impressive turnout despite heavy rain. Mbawo FC (1991) retained their lead with a perfect record, staying two points ahead of Solida FC (1995). The day also featured a thrilling tug-of-war, where Ruga-Ruga FC (1988) overpowered Solida FC (1995), and Shadow FC (2009) narrowly defeated Makaya FC (2008)—with winners celebrating with well-earned crates of beer.

Hosts Vuyos United FC paid tribute to late members, including Taz Jacqueline, Percy Nambasi, and Nicholas Kisarale, commemorating their contributions to the league. As the evening unfolded, Yeefe Band and DJs Bank Robber and Rola kept the energy high with a blend of classic and contemporary hits.
Adding to the nostalgia, alumni embraced 90s fashion, sporting oversized shirts, vintage jeans, and stylish capes, a throwback to hip-hop’s golden era. The event was a testament to the league’s unique mix of competition, camaraderie, and celebration of Mwiri’s enduring legacy.
