Our Lady of Africa Secondary School wins Holy Cross prayer contest

Our Lady of Africa Secondary School Mukono/Namilyango is the champion of this year’s Try Prayer Contest, a religious performing arts competition for secondary school students organised by Holy Cross Family Ministries. The school’s victory followed a super performance that its students put up during the finals of the festival at Sharing Youth Centre Nsambya, Makindye Division on Saturday (June 15, 2023).

The students from Our Lady of Africa SS surprised everybody when they emerged as the best ensemble in all the categories, that is Poetry, Drama, Original Song and Essay Writing. Everyone looked on in disbelief as the school’s ensembles bagged all the four trophies.

According to the report of the adjudicators, Our Lady of Africa SS Namilyango/Mukono collected 230 points to scoop the championship.

St Kizito Secondary School Bugoloobi took second position with 223 points. Our Lady Queen of Africa Girls SS Rubaga took third position with 178 points. St Charles Lwanga International School Kakiri took 4th position.

Other schools that participated in the festival include Trinity College Nabbingo, St Maria Goretti SS Katende, St Francis Nsambya Hospital Training School, Stena Hill School Lukuli-Nanganda, Tropical High School Kabalagala, St Joseph’s SSS Naggalama, Mount St Mary’s College Namagunga and Kisubi Mapeera SS, just to name a few.

The Director of Holy Cross Family Ministries in East Africa, the Rev Fr. John Baptist Nsubuga paid tribute to the schools that participated in the festival which he said is intended to deepen the faith of the students as well as boosting their knowledge and relationship with the creator.

The students and instructors who performed extra-ordinarily well were given special presents.

The festival ran under the theme: One Eucharistic Family.
