Producer Didi discloses HIV results

Veteran music producer Didi has publicly disclosed that he is HIV-positive.

He made the heartfelt revelation in a video shared on social media on Thursday, June 6, 2024.

We managed to interview the producer, real name Karim Muchwa, later on June 6, on what influenced his decision to disclose his sero status.

“I am HIV-positive. I have the virus. Recently, when I was checked in hospital, I was found to have the virus," Producer Didi emphasised.

He said he does not regret making the disclosure because he has changed and will save a lot of lives.

“Despite my challenging circumstances, including poor living conditions and ongoing health issues, I will remain determined to make a positive impact. I pledge to collaborate with various organisations to raise awareness about HIV, particularly targeting fellow celebrities and the younger generation. My goal is to participate in campaigns that promote education and prevention of the virus," Didi said.

He advised the young generation not to take HIV for granted, saying the virus is real and serious.

Didi's announcement has sparked a wave of reactions across the music industry and among his fans.

Several artistes, led by Eddy Kenzo, expressed their concern and support for Didi. They started rallying financial assistance and health support for their colleague.

Didi’s openness about his HIV status is a significant step in the fight against the stigma associated with the virus.

His courage in sharing his diagnosis aims to encourage others to seek testing and treatment, and to foster a more informed and compassionate society.

Didi joins other Ugandan celebrities who disclosed their HIV status publicly, including actor Aloysius matovu  and media personality MC Kats, as well as singers Philly Bongole Lutaaya and Super Charger.

Didi’s health struggles have been evident for some time. His most recent health scare occurred on May 27, 2024, when he collapsed and was  taken to the hospital by his friend, singer Coco Finger.

Didi said he had been suffering from high blood pressure and ulcers for a long time. 

“I often don’t complete treatment due to lack of funds. I have also been overworking while sick, but still, I have no money. I do not know how I will manage the hospital bills. I have not been working for quite long time due to sickness," he said then.
