Singer Daudi Mugema seeking sh115m to treat unknown illness

Singer Daudi Mugema is pleading for financial assistance again so as to seek advanced treatment abroad for a severe idiopathic illness (a disease for which a cause cannot be found).

During an interview with Mugema on Tuesday, June 4, he said he first developed pain and wounds on his lower leg. He then got swellings on his thighs for over four months.

Mugema was  forced to go to Mulago Hospital, where he was diagnosed with skin cancer. He was given painkillers since he did not have money for proper treatment and referred to Aga Khan Hospital in Kenya for further management.

"I kept taking the medication, which reduced my pain  as I was looking for money for further treatment at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi," Mugema said.

However, his friends, including Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and MP Allan Ssewanyana, advised him to go to Turkey instead, and started fundraising money for him.

"They managed to fundraise for me the money that I used to get to Turkey," Mugema said.

He said when he went to Turkey, he had to undergo fresh medical examinations.

However, the doctors in Turkey failed to diagnose any disease. 

"They referred me to India or the US in case I was not comfortable with their diagnosis," Mugema said.

Meanwhile, Mugema revealed that while in Turkey, the person who facilitated the trip abandoned him, leaving him stranded and struggling to cover his medical expenses.

He was, however, to solicit funds and return to Uganda, where he went back to Mulago Hospital for confirmatory tests. 

Mugema said different doctors examined him and declared him free of skin cancer. While this would be exhilarating news for another person, it meant something different for Mugema. The news scared him the more as he is rotting and experiencing excruciating pain, but he has no diagnosis.

His hope now lies in either India or the US. "Let me at least die after I have tried to get treatment," Mugema stated. 

The Mama hit-maker has again made a heartfelt appeal for financial support. He said his condition requires urgent medical attention to prevent it from becoming life-threatening.

Despite fans and friends raising funds to aid his recovery, Mugema emphasised that the collected amount is insufficient.

He urgently needs over $30,000 (about sh115m) to cover treatment and other related costs.

How did Mugema's health condition come about?
According to Mugema, his health issues began following his arrest and imprisonment in 2020. 

He recounted experiencing torture and beatings at the hands of fellow prisoners. Mugema believes this treatment resulted in his medical condition.
