St. Mbaaga’s Major Seminary wins choristers association musical competition

The Ggaba seminarians’ ensemble (Alleluia Choir) was declared winner during the association’s 8th Annual Christmas Carol Festival that took place at Sheraton Hotel on Sunday (November 27, 2022).

St. Mbaaga’s Major Seminary Ggaba has won the championship of this year’s choral music festival of the Choristers Association of Uganda. 

The Ggaba seminarians’ ensemble (Alleluia Choir) was declared winner during the association’s 8th Annual Christmas Carol Festival that took place at Sheraton Hotel on Sunday (November 27, 2022).

The interdenominational festival attracted several choirs, including Spiritual Inspirational Choir (from Nabbingo Catholic parish), Good Samaritan Choir (Bwayiise Catholic Church), Trinity Choir Bunnamwaya, and St. Augustine’s Choir from Kabale Diocese.

Choirs such as St. Stephen’s Choir from Kabowa Church of Uganda, Pan African Choir and the Golden Gate Choir (from the Adventist Church) also participated in the festival as guest ensembles.

The victorious choir of the Ggaba seminarians (Alleluia Choir) were given a brand-new motorbike courtesy of Mantra Motorbike East Africa Limited.

Kabale diocese’s St. Augustine Choir (the second runner-up ensemble) were given a bicycle and a cash-prize courtesy of Hon. Mohamood Thobani of 4 Ways Group of Companies.

Trinity Choir Bunnamwaya (from Bunamwaya Catholic Church) took the second position. They were rewarded with a brand-new violin and some cash. All the choirs that participated in the festival were given a brand-new mattress courtesy of Rosefoam.

The Patron of the Choristers Association of Uganda, the Rev. Fr. Dr. Joseph Mary Ssebunnya paid tribute to the member choirs for their sacrificial spirit and commitment to the sacred music ministry. 

He also thanked companies such as Vision Group for their goodwill and support towards the association.

The coordinator of the festival, Justine Nabbaale called upon corporate organizations and all people of goodwill to support the festival. She said next year’s event will be graced by a choir from Europe.
