Jjumba Lubowa Aligaweesa

(born 1978) is an influential Ugandan religious figure and recording artist. As the Ssabakabona (High Priest) of the indigenous Tondism faith, he spearheads a movement dedicated to the revival and preservation of precolonial African spiritual traditions. Aligaweesa advocates for the reintegration of these practices into contemporary African life, emphasizing their cultural significance and potential for fostering a stronger sense of identity
Born in Rakai District of Uganda, Aligaweesa's early life took an unconventional path. Following the death of his Catholic father Paul Ssenyonga Mugerwa, he was raised by a Muslim relative Hajj Sulait Mugerwa, after his mother Theresa Namakula Nakamaya faced challenges in caring for him. Despite limited formal education, Aligaweesa reportedly displayed spiritual inclinations from a young age, eventually becoming a medium for the spirit Lubowa, which guided his embrace of traditional spiritual practices.

In 2017, Aligaweesa was consecrated as the First High Priest of Enzikiriza Y’obuwangwa N’ennono, Tondism Faith the First African native Ancestral Faith that is championing the restoration of the extinct African Native Spiritual faith. Through his leadership, the Tondism faith has witnessed significant growth, establishing over 100 worship centers across Uganda and training numerous priests. His efforts extend beyond national borders, as he has represented African spirituality on the international stage, including speaking engagements at UNESCO-sponsored conferences.

The Wife Nabakooza Nezia populary known as Ssenga Kulanama was born on 25 December 1980. Grew up in Kajjansi Kigo. In a world that is rapidly changing, few couples stand as firmly rooted in tradition and purpose as Jjumba Lubowa Aligaweesa and Nabakooza Nezia. Their journey together is one of unity, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to African heritage.
 

A Sacred Union

The couple sealed their bond in 2019 through a deeply symbolic traditional ceremony held at the Sacred Sites of Walusi a reflection of their reverence for ancestral values and spiritual grounding. Their marriage was not just a union of two individuals, but a merging of missions deeply rooted in service, healing, and cultural revival.

A Harmonious Partnership
Aligaweesa, a respected spiritual leader, and Nezia, a gifted herbalist, have built a life that blends spiritual wisdom and natural healing. Together, they embody a balance of masculine and feminine energy, sacred leadership, and nurturing care.

They reside in two homes Akright Residence in Wakiso and Mukono both of which serve as hubs for their family and community-centered work.

Farming, Real Estate, and Transport: Building Foundations
At the tender age of 14, Nezia made the difficult decision to leave school to support her self by Fishing, this instilled in her a strong work ethic and a deep understanding of perseverance.

Seeking additional means to support herself, Nabakooza ventured into local theater. Her natural charisma and storytelling ability quickly made her a standout performer. Through theater, she honed her communication skills and built a network of connections that would later prove invaluable.

Fast forward, determined to create generational wealth and sustainability, the couple founded large-scale farms cultivating coffee and various other crops. Their ventures expanded into transportation and real estate, forming a solid economic base that supports not only their family but also provides employment and opportunity to others.

They are pushing hard to see that they own as much land as they can because they believe it is the greatest thing to own in Buganda.

Since they both shared a dream of helping those around them, they decided to start an NGO in the names of “Enzikiriza y’obuwangwa n’ennono Tondism faith” so that they can help not only people around them but every Ugandan who needs a hand.

In a groundbreaking moment for the Ugandan music industry, Jjumba Lubowa Aligaweesa, affectionately known by fans as Sebatta wa Leero, set an unprecedented record by releasing 30 music videos in one go a feat never before seen in the country’s music history.

The bold move, which electrified both local and international audiences, was celebrated in style at a highly anticipated concert titled Tuzze, held at the iconic Club Obligato in Kampala. The event was a showcase not only of musical talent but of vision, work ethic, and the evolving power of independent artistry in Uganda.

The release caught the attention of major media houses across the nation. Leading platforms such as Bukedde TV, The New Vision, and Ennono TV all featured the story prominently, praising Aligaweesa for his creativity and dedication to his craft. Fans flooded social media with praise, calling him a “trailblazer” and “a true legend in the making.”

But Jjumba’s influence doesn’t stop at Uganda’s borders. His musical journey has taken him to Dubai, South Africa, and England, where he has performed for vibrant Ugandan communities who have fallen in love with his unique sound and powerful stage presence.

Nicknamed Sebatta wa Leero a title that reflects both reverence and relevance Jjumba Lubowa Aligaweesa is not just making music; he’s making history. With his bold vision, unwavering commitment to storytelling through song, and a deep connection to his roots, he is redefining what it means to be a Ugandan artist.


His works aim to entertain, educate, and empower particularly targeting parents and married couples, while sparking renewed appreciation for African traditions and values.

A Legacy of Family and Culture
With four children; Nabukeera Namirembe Jjumba, Nabisaso Namirembe Nakayima, Bisaso Jjumba Lubowa Aligaweesa and  Najjumba Naneenge Namirembe. Jjumba Aligaweesa and Nezia are intentional in their parenting. They strive to raise their family deeply rooted in African customs, spirituality, and ancestral wisdom, hoping to instill values that will be passed on for generations.

Their dream is to leave behind a legacy not only in wealth or achievement, but in culture, character, and community leadership.

Challenges and Resilience
Like many pioneers, they have faced numerous challenges, especially from those who misunderstand or oppose their mission. Yet, their resolve has only strengthened. Their belief in their purpose and the power of African identity fuels their resilience.

Philanthropy and Community Impact
Beyond their personal ambitions, the couple is deeply invested in community upliftment. They’ve initiated philanthropic projects, granting scholarships and supporting the needy, embodying the African philosophy of Ubuntu "I am because we are."
