In a fitting celebration of Easter’s message of renewal, kickboxing icon Warrant Officer II Titus Tugume tied the knot with his longtime partner, Annet Busingye, on Saturday.
The couple exchanged vows at St. Stevens Kitara Church in Entebbe, before hosting a jubilant reception at Kampala University that evening.
Their union was witnessed by a crowd of well-wishers, with hundreds joining in the joyful festivities.
“I thank all those that have been there for me and I promise to keep a successful marriage,” said Tugume.

His long-time mentor, financier, friend, and ‘Team Tugume’ member, Professor Badru Kateregga—proprietor of Kampala University—was the most notable surprise at the event, arriving late in the day.
“I should be in bed, but I had to come for Tugume’s ceremony,” remarked the professor.
He praised Tugume for remaining focused on his studies and earning a master’s degree, in addition to his success as an international kickboxer.
“He has given us joy as a successful soldier. He and a few others have grown in my hands, and I wish him the best in marriage,” added the professor, before introducing his children and staff, whom he said would continue running Kampala University after his retirement.

Tugume has excelled as an athlete, coach, president of mixed martial arts, and academician with a master’s degree.
The professor also suggested that the UPDF should consider promoting Tugume beyond the WO II rank, given his academic and sporting achievements.
“I am going to reach out to those concerned about this,” he said.

Col. Robert Ngabirano of the UPDF Air Force commended Tugume for being a role model in the military, not only as a sportsman but also as president of Mixed Martial Arts in the Ugandan and East African military.
“Effective communication in the boxing ring and in the military will be key in your marriage. Many senior officers are happy for your marriage,” said Col. Ngabirano.
He also urged Annet to support her husband, noting that she, too, is now a WO II officer.
Guests were entertained by the Ghetto Kids dancers, Compadi Sooja, and the UPDF Air Force Brass Band at the reception.
