A 35-year-old woman from Kyema cell in Masindi Municipality has been arrested for allegedly faking a miscarriage of twins to extort money.
Jennifer Nyakato, who moved to the area a few months ago, reportedly entered into a relationship with a man identified as Charles Balisimaki.
According to Kyema cell chairperson Jafari Kyomya, Nyakato later relocated, allegedly to Kampala, before contacting Balisimaki last week to request financial assistance.
She claimed to have suffered a miscarriage and needed funds to transport the remains of the twins. Balisimaki sent her shillings 200,000.
On Saturday, April 12, 2025, Nyakato returned to Kyema with two small coffins, which she claimed contained the remains of the twins.
However, when suspicious relatives and local residents opened the coffins, they discovered banana stems inside.
Nyakato immediately fled the scene but was arrested the following day at a lodge in Kyema trading centre.
Speaking on the matter, Balisimaki expressed outrage at the incident, saying Nyakato’s actions had brought shame upon him in front of his parents, relatives, and the wider community.
