In a significant development in the fight against sexual abuse and human trafficking, the sexual and gender-based violence department of the Police Criminal Investigation Directorate (CID) has preferred charges against an Australian national.
Rob Johns, the Jinja Marine Supplies Co. Ltd managing director, now stands faces charges of rape and trafficking in persons before the Jinja Chief Magistrate's Court, according to Police spokesperson Fred Enanga.
The charges were preferred in collaboration with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
Enanga says the allegations surrounding this case are deeply troubling and have sent shockwaves through the community.
"Human trafficking and sexual abuse are crimes that society vehemently condemns. In this instance, the accused, a foreign national, is accused of exploiting his female employees, subjecting them to sexual intercourse under coercion. He used the threat of termination as leverage, forcing these women into unimaginable situations," Enanga says.
Shockingly, the accused also engaged in group sexual activities with the female victims and instructed them to perform explicit acts using sex toys, all while recording these distressing events on video, according to Enanga.
He said multiple videos, serving as evidence, have been recovered and presented in court.
"These pornographic materials were created with the intent of being sold on specialized websites for profit, further violating the dignity and privacy of the victims," Enanga adds.
The authorities are calling upon anyone with information regarding potential human trafficking offences in their vicinity to come forward and collaborate with the Police. These crimes thrive in secrecy and public co-operation is crucial in identifying and rescuing vulnerable individuals from exploitation.
The commitment of the Police and ODPP to combat human trafficking and sexual abuse remains unwavering, according to Enanga who was on Monday speaking during the weekly security briefing in Kampala.
The Police also pledged to relentlessly investigate and prosecute those involved in these heinous activities, ensuring that justice is served for the victims.
Enanga said the case at hand serves as a testament to their resolute efforts and dedication to eradicating such deplorable crimes from their community. Together, they stand firm in their mission to protect the vulnerable and hold offenders accountable for their actions.
