Bunyoro Kingdom is mourning the death of Princess Ruth Zerida Kabajumba Bushara Akiiki, the elder sister of Omukama Solomon Gafabusa Iguru, who passed away in India on Tuesday.
Fred Mugenyi Rucunya, the head of the royal Babiito clan, said preparations to return the body to Uganda are already underway.
He revealed that Princess Kabajumba has been receiving treatment in India for close to one month after undergoing a heart operation.
Mugenyi described the deceased as a person who was open-minded towards development and eulogised the deceased for being a calm and noble person who loved her culture.
According to Mugenyi, Kabajumba has been the Batebete (the official sister of a reigning king) to Omukama Solomon Gafabusa Iguru.
“She has been a great friend to her brother, the king, and according to our tradition, as the Batebete of the kingdom, she always performed some rituals with her brother during the coronation anniversary,” he said.
