Preparations for the 31st Empango anniversary of Omukama Dr Solomon Gafabusa Iguru I are well underway, according to the prime minister of Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom, Andrew Kirungi Byakutaaga.

Addressing the media at the kingdom headquarters, Byakutaaga confirmed that the celebrations are on course and shared key details of the upcoming programme.

He revealed that a thanksgiving prayer service will be held on Wednesday, June 11, at St Peter’s Cathedral in Duhaga to commemorate the King’s 31 years on the throne.

Later in the evening, the omujwaato (traditional royal run) will take place at the Masindi Boma Grounds in Masindi Municipality.

Byakutaaga further stated that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has confirmed his attendance as chief guest on the main day of the Empango celebrations.

He also called upon the people of Bunyoro to continue supporting the kingdom, noting that there is still a financial gap that needs to be filled.

Byakutaaga urged the business community to seize the opportunity to provide services to the over 10,000 people expected to attend the event.

However, the Prime Minister could not confirm whether the Omukama will personally attend the 31st Empango anniversary, which is scheduled for this Wednesday.
