Rwenzori Anglican Diocese Bishop Reuben Bizarwenda Kisembo has urged Christians and Ugandans of other denominations to observe sexual purity during the festive season.
"Let's observe sexual purity for the good of our bodies and the good of our society," Kisembo says.
The Bishop was on Sunday evening preaching during a Christmas carols session to a congregation that was partly filled with legislators and soldiers at All Saints Cathedral in Kampala.
Close to 1,000 Christians including those from the Rwenzori Kampala chaplaincy gathered under a white, decorated tent where they were entertained with Christmas carols and hymns.
Desist from alcohol and drug abuse
Kisembo also urged Ugandans to desist from alcoholism: "Let us abandon Alcohol and instead drink water. This [alcoholism] is worse in rural areas where people no longer work and families are dead".
"So let us desist from alcohol and drug abuse which is now rampant in schools," Kisembo said.
Primary health care state minister Margaret Muhanga was in attendance dressed in a blue busuuti.
Concerning Alcohol, Muhanga said her faith was now in the preachers to save the country from the high alcohol intake.
"Society is wild in this country," Muhanga said.
Corruption is in the congregation
Kisembo said most of the corrupt individuals are 'people in our churches'.
"Every day you read a story of how money has been stolen and embezzled, how people have misused their offices. It is sad," Kisembo said.
He quoted Proverbs 22:1 while urging Christians to choose a good name over silver and gold.
Domestic violence
Kisembo urged homes to embrace peace and desist from domestic violence: "Let us learn to resolve problems through peaceful means".
He added that Christmas Day is not a beauty contest yet many Christians look for the best clothes to show off on the day
"This is not a modeling day, it's not about the clothes, it's about the savior of the world, not merry-making and going to the beach," Kisembo said.
Do not give up on children
Regarding values, Muhanga said most children have become indisciplined while parents have relaxed.
"Don't give up, because my father was really tough," Muhanga said in the quest to encourage parents who had given up on grooming children to the right path.
Avoid speeding
As Kisembo concluded his sermon he urged Christians to avoid speeding and asked congregants to observe traffic rules.
"There is that excitement and people drive like crazy. So, let us drive with caution. Also, when you drink don't drive," Kisembo said.
Christians recognition
Christians who contributed to the chaplaincy throughout the year were recognised for providing food, printing facilities, and making other contributions towards the monthly gatherings.
