Police on Wednesday confirmed they had shot and killed a private security guard from Ultimate Security Company, who had earlier gunned down two of his colleagues after being dismissed from his job.
Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson, said the incident occurred on June 18, 2025, at around 9:00 am, at the offices of Ultimate Security Company located in Mbuya, Bugolobi parish, Nakawa Division, Kampala district.
“The Police at Jinja Road are actively investigating a tragic shooting incident that resulted in the death of three individuals, including the suspected shooter. The deceased have been identified as: Noella Zella – assistant human resource officer at Ultimate Security Company; Salez Bwampata – the armoury officer at Ultimate Security Company; and Richard Mwaawa – the suspect and security guard with Ultimate Security Company,” Owoyesigyire said.
He explained that it is alleged the suspect, Mwaawa, entered the company premises and shot Zella before turning the weapon on Bwampata.
“Responding police officers, acting on information received about the active shooting, swiftly engaged the suspect and fatally wounded him in the process of subduing the threat. All three bodies have been conveyed to City Mortuary Mulago for post-mortem examinations. The firearm suspected to have been used in the incident has been recovered and has been exhibited for further forensic analysis,” Owoyesigyire added.
He said that, at this stage, the motive behind the shooting remains unclear. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing, and further details will be communicated as soon as they are available.
However, sources noted that Mwaawa had reportedly been sacked by the company and asked to hand over his weapon before the incident.
“We urge members of the public to remain calm and allow the police to carry out a thorough investigation into this unfortunate event,” Owoyesigyire noted.
