The Democratic Party (DP) has mourned the fallen former Rubaga South Member of Parliament Kato Lubwama, describing his death as the ‘end of loyalty among political leaders'.

Addressing journalists on Tuesday, at DP head offices at City House in Kampala, Uganda Young Democrats (UYD) president Ismail Kirya said Kato was loyal to DP and that it would take the party much effort to get his replacement.

“We stand with the family and friends, knowing that much is going on. As a party we pray that Lubwama finds deserving rest,” Kirya said.

The celebrated comedian and businessman was announced dead on June 7, 2023, and is said to have died of heart-related complications at Stana Medical Centre in Bunamwaya.

Now, the DP party, where Lubwama belonged, has described him as a truthful man who would stick to his principles. They said Lubwama had mentored many by the time of his demise.

“He was an accomplished artist who mentored many young people before he passed on,” Kirya said.

About Lubwama

Lubwama served as a legislator in the 10th Parliament before he lost the seat to Aloysius Mukasa in the 2021 general election.

On June 9, 2017, Lubwama was among the 363 people who received medals from President Museveni during Heroes Day celebrations at St Augustine Catholic Parish Grounds in Zirobwe sub-county, Luwero district. He was recognised for his long-time career in acting and comedy.

Shortly after getting the medal, Lubwama said he was happy that President decided to recognise people like him (actors).

“President Museveni did not give me this medal because of politics. It was in recognition of what I have contributed to this country through comedy,” he said.
