KIKUUBE - The government has launched the tarmacking of the 43-kilometre Kabwoya-Buhuka road, valued at sh263 billion, to facilitate oil and gas production.
The groundbreaking ceremony took place on April 3, 2025, at St Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Kikonda II village, Kabwoya subcounty.
In a message delivered by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni urged the people of Bunyoro to turn the various development projects in the region into job and wealth-creation opportunities for households, ensuring the projects have a lasting impact.
In her own remarks, Nabanja directed that towns including Kyangwali, Wairagaza, and Kabwoya each receive five kilometres of tarmac roads as part of the project.

Eng. Alfred Ogik, representing the works state minister Musa Ecweru, revealed that upon completion of this project, Bunyoro subregion will have a total of 648 kilometres of tarmacked roads.
Peter Banura, the Kikuube district LC5 chairperson, urged the contractor to prioritise environmental conservation, particularly in the Bugoma Forest.
Florence Natumanya, the Kikuube District Woman Member of Parliament, warned sub-contractors against breaching agreements.
Francis Kazini, the Buhaguzi County Member of Parliament, appealed to the government to ensure that all individuals affected by the project receive fair compensation.
The Kabwoya-Buhuka road project was contracted to the Chinese Railway Seventh Group (CRSG) and is expected to be completed within 36 months, with the handover scheduled for 4 June 2027.
