More than 3,000 families in Kabegaramire sub-village, Nyairongo village, Kikuube district, are reportedly living in fear over looming eviction from their land.
Residents said they discovered that their plots fall under land titles that were revealed during the recent systematic land adjudication and certification process.
Swaibu Twinamatsiko, a resident of Kabegaramire sub-village, said they are affected by about six land titles believed to have been acquired in 2023.
Twinamatsiko added that residents have invested in the land by building mosques, churches, and schools, as well as engaging in agriculture, such as coffee and cocoa farming.
He urged leaders and the Ministry of Lands to investigate the individuals behind the alleged land titles and have them cancelled.
Recently, during a visit to Kikuube, State Minister for Lands Dr Sam Mayanja explained that Section 91 of the Land Act gives the Registrar of Titles the authority to cancel land titles acquired through fraudulent means or if a title conflicts with another.
He promised to follow up on cases involving land titles allegedly obtained through fraud in Kikuube District.
