Expectant mothers in Wakiso district's Kireka have received a donation of Mama kits.
The donation of 350 mama kits to pregnant mothers by the Rotary Club of Kireka Movers was given out on February 20, 2025, at the Kireka Health Centre III.
The initiative was led by club President Godfrey Tumsiime, who said they have embarked on a noble initiative to support expectant mothers in the community.
“The club’s commitment to donate mama kits is a gesture aimed at promoting maternal health and reducing the burden on families,” Tumsiime said.
The distribution ceremony was in the presence of the in charge of child and maternal health Asian sense.

According to Tumsiime, the mama kit programme is a local project that the club undertakes every two years. This year's project was particularly significant, as it commemorated the late Rotarian Ocelli Patrick's presidency in 2002, during which the programme was initiated.
"We are here to support the underprivileged and bring hope to the community," he said. "As Rotary, we believe in embracing and supporting those in need, and this project is a testament to that commitment."
The mama kits were locally funded by the club's members. each kit contains essential items for expectant mothers, including a delivery bed sheet, a baby blanket and a set of baby clothes.
Asian Sense, the midwife in charge of Kireka Health Centre, warmly received the donation.
Sense noted that the health centre receives approximately 36 to 40 first-time mothers every month, despite its limited facilities, which were recently upgraded from a health centre two to three.
Boniface Michael Olette, one of the expectant husbands who accompanied his wife, expressed gratitude to the Rotary Club of Kireka Movers for their kindness.
"What motivated me to bring my wife to this health centre is actually the love for the family," he said. "I took it as a special commitment to support her."
Olette advised other men to practice love and treat family members in unique ways, creating a comfortable living environment.
The club's initiative is a shining example of community service and a testament to the power of collective action in making a positive impact on people's lives.
