Last year, a man was arrested in Parombo town council, Nebbi district, after being found in possession of a suspected illegal firearm during a raid conducted by (UPDF) soldiers on December 5, 2024.
The operation carried out at Yufa Guest House, uncovered a rifle, registration number 58044841, and four rounds of ammunition.
The suspect, identified as Asuman Agwoko, 31, a barber, was taken into custody alongside Ester Afoyorwoth, 24, who is allegedly linked to the case.
West Nile Regional Police spokesperson, Collins Asea, said the firearm is believed to have been mortgaged by the wife of a UPDF officer deployed on a peacekeeping mission in Somalia.
“Preliminary findings indicate the weapon was handed over to the suspect under dubious circumstances. The UPDF has confirmed their intention to subject the suspects to a court-martial,” he stated.
The rifle and ammunition were recovered from room five of the guest house. Police reconstructed the scene and documented evidence with assistance from UPDF personnel.
