Police in Iganga district have launched investigations into the murder of Lira Assistant Resident City Commissioner (RCC) Karim Mwase. The investigation follows the discovery of Mwase's body dumped in a trench in Nabwoli village, Nakalma sub-county in Iganga district at about 8:00pm on May 11, 2025.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Mwase's body was discovered by colleagues lying in a trench a few meters from the car he was driving.
Bugweri assistant Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Nasser Kakaire, said someone telephoned him at around 8:00 pm informing him of a car belonging to the deceased that had been parked in the middle of the main Iganga to Tirinyi highway with double indicators on.

“I immediately rushed to the scene only to find all the windows of the car open with no occupant while the engine was still running,” he said.
A search was mounted by locals who later discovered that the body of the deceased had been dumped in a trench a few meters from where his car was.
According to the Buikwe assistant RDC Sanon Dalah, the deceased had on Saturday attended his introduction ceremony held at Kirongero village, Bugiri district.
Dalah said the deceased was planning to travel back to Lira today, May 12, 2025.
Mwase on Sunday also attended a meeting at Makuutu village at the invitation of Iganga RDC Sadala Wandera, who was officially declaring his intentions to contest for the Bugweri county Member of Parliament race.
Over 50 RDCs hailing from the eastern region later converged at Sana Hotel along the Iganga-Jinja highway for dinner before parting at about 7.30 pm.
An eyewitness, who requested anonymity, said he saw three people come out of the vehicle belonging to the deceased holding someone before disappearing into the darkness.
“I later heard someone cry in a loud voice asking for help,” he said.
The three men later jumped on a boda boda that arrived moments later and sped off towards the Mbale direction.
The body of the deceased was discovered with blood oozing from the nose and a big wound on the forehead.
Iganga deputy RDC Dauda Kato urged the Police to speed up investigations and establish the people responsible for the murder.
Busoga East Police region spokesperson, Mchael Kafayo, said investigations are underway to establish the motive behind the murder.
Kafayo urged the public to volunteer information about the people responsible for the murder.
Nakalama LC3 chairperson Amidu Kawanguzi urged the Police to beef up security, especially along the main highway, to curb the increasing cases of murder and violent crimes committed during night hours.
By press time, the body of the deceased was still lying at the Iganga Hospital Mortuary awaiting a postmortem.
