Mbarara City hosts International Ecumenical Fellowship

MBARARA - Hundreds of delegates from different parts of the world have gathered at Las Vegas Hotel in Mbarara City to attend the 6th International Ecumenical Fellowship (IEF).

The three-day event is organized by the International Ecumenical Fellowship Africa Chapter in partnership with Bishop Stuart University. The conference was officially opened Thursday (August 15) by the Minister of Trade Industry and Cooperative Francis Mwebesa.

The conference organized under the theme “Religion and Development” has attracted delegates from USA, South Sudan, Kenya, Uganda, Congo, Rwanda, Burundi and online delegates from Romania, Canada and the UK.

Speaking to New Vision, Bishop Fred Sheldon Mwesigwa, President of the International Ecumenical Fellowship Africa Chapter and bishop of Ankole diocese said they organized the fellowship to bring together Christians irrespective of their faith and share the word of God and fellowship and also address different topics that concern human beings.

The conference is organized every after two years.

“The bible talked about money more than love, that shows Jesus was always talking about talent, money, stewardship and all those concepts that talk about business, that’s why we said this year let's concentrate on helping our people to think in that direction, “ said Bishop Mwesigwa.

Mbarara City Resident Commissioner, Lt Col. James Mwesigye, and different religious leaders are among those who attended the opening ceremony.

Col Edith Nakalema, the head of State House Investors Unit is among the guests to make presentations at the conference today. 

The conference will end on Saturday (August 17, 2024).

Dr. Emmanuel Dei-Tumi- President of Human Capital International Africa who gave a keynote address at the opening ceremony, commended conference conveners for this year’s theme “religion and Development” with a special focus on exploring practical ways of contributing towards improving economic lives and promoting good health and well-being which are goals 1 &3 of the Sustainable Development goals.
