According to such figures, 226,795 more passengers used Entebbe International Airport this year compared to the same period last year.

Speaking during the same presser, Olive Birungi Lumonya, the UCAA deputy director general, also a board member of the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) remarked that such numbers translate into tourists who come into the country.

Lumonya defined a tourist as a visitor whose trip includes an overnight stay but lasts not longer than one year. She noted that a tourist may be a domestic traveller or international visitor, thus expressing optimism towards Uganda's tourism sector based on the increased number of international passengers recorded at Entebbe airport.

Lumonya added that the growth in passenger and cargo traffic demonstrates the airport's importance in fostering international travel, tourism and trade.

Increased cargo
