Mpigi-Muduuma road works start next week

MPIGI - Government has set April 25, 2025, as the commencement date for construction of the Mpigi-Muduma road in Mpigi district.

 The state minister for Kampala affairs, Kabuye Kyofatogabye, noted that the road will be constructed under the World Bank-funded Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area Urban Development Programme (GKMA-UDP). 

Construction works on the 15.6km road to be undertaken by Chinese firm Zhongmei Engineering Group are set to conclude in 18 months.

“The contractor, consultant and everyone are ready to have the construction work kick-off,” he said, reiterating the government's plan to enhance connectivity, mobility, and increase business growth in the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area (GKMA).

Programme beneficiaries include: Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), Wakiso, Mukono and Mpigi district local governments and the respective municipal local governments of Kira, Nansana, Makindye-Ssabagabo, Mukono, and Entebbe.

The minister made the revelation earlier this week during a tour to Mpigi to acquaint himself with progress on the GKMA-UDP projects in the area.

The latest development comes after the government completed the acquisition of land for the right of way and other needs.

The minister said they are looking at ensuring closed drainage instead of open drainage in the part of Mpigi town council where the road passes, since it is densely populated.
