Police in Amudat district are investigating the brutal murder of 50-year-old Paulina Chemukai, who was gang-raped and killed by unknown assailants.

Chemukai, a resident of Kongoror Village in Amudat Town Council, was found dead near Kanyangaren River in Kakaresi Village on the morning of December 2, 2024.

According to reports, Chemukai and her husband, John Lotirwari, had spent December 1, 2024, drinking at a local bar. She disappeared at about 8:00 pm, leaving her husband at the bar. The next morning, her naked body was discovered by passersby. Police suspect that the attackers took advantage of her intoxicated state to commit the crime.

Preliminary investigations suggest the assailants dragged her into a bush, where they raped and murdered her. Amudat District Police Commander led a team of homicide officers, scene of crime officers and canine units to the crime scene, which was sketched, photographed, and documented. A canine dog deployed at the scene did not yield results.

Amudat Police spokesperson Mike Longole appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects. The body was taken to Amudat Hospital for postmortem as investigations continue.

Police probe murder in Buikwe

Meanwhile, the Police are also investigating the murder of Charles Ssekito, a farmer whose body was discovered on December 3, 2024, after being severely beaten by two suspects. The incident took place in Kamenya II, Kiteza Parish, Lugazi Municipality, Buikwe district.

It is alleged that on the evening of December 2, 2024, Ssekito was found cutting grass for cattle in a local garden when he was confronted by the suspects, John Mutyaba and Steven Emuroti.

They accused him of stealing coffee, but no evidence was found to support this claim. The suspects then took Ssekito to a local chairman, who refused to get involved and sent them away.

The suspects, however, continued their assault and later transported Ssekito to his uncle’s home. He was kept there in a severely beaten state and passed away the following morning. The suspects have been arrested and are currently in police custody.

Buikwe Police Spokesperson Hellen Butoto confirmed that the body was taken to Kawolo Hospital for a postmortem examination.

“Investigations are ongoing, and we urge the public to share any information that may assist in the case,” Butoto said.
