KAMPALA - The Very Rev. Canon Dunstan Kiwanuka Mazinga has officially assumed the role of Dean of St Paul’s Cathedral, Namirembe.

Previously the chaplain of Mengo Senior School and later the Archdeacon of Gayaza, Mazinga was installed by the Bishop of Namirembe, the Rt Rev. Moses Banja, during an extraordinary Eucharistic service at Namirembe Cathedral on February 23, 2025.

As part of the installation formalities, Bishop Banja handed over the appointment documents and the constitution of the Church of Uganda to Canon Mazinga, witnessed by diocesan secretary Canon Henry Ssegawa, diocesan chancellor counsel Fredrick Mpanga, vice-chancellor counsel James Kyazze, and a congregation of worshippers.

Delivering the homily, Canon Augustine Magala Musiwuufu urged Canon Mazinga and his wife, Canon Lovincer Kiwanuka, to serve God’s people with humility, determination, and devotion.

He also encouraged them to work harmoniously with Buganda kingdom, given its deep historical ties with Namirembe Diocese and the Church of Uganda.

Buganda’s Katikkiro, Charles Peter Mayiga, echoed this message in a speech delivered on his behalf by the speaker of the Buganda Lukiiko, Patrick Luwaga Mugumbule.

In his inaugural address, Canon Mazinga pledged to serve in accordance with God’s will.

He committed to preaching a holistic gospel, strengthening the Sunday school ministry, and utilising church land for development.

He also outlined plans to build a grand Cathedral House, improve the welfare of Church ministers, and foster teamwork in his leadership.

Following the service, Canon Mazinga and his wife, Lovincer Kiwanuka, shared a meal with congregants in the Cathedral gardens.
