KAMPALA - Two officials from Ntungamo Municipality have been charged with the alleged mismanagement of sh55.3 million.
Rodgers Gadala, 34, an accountant and Denis Ssozi, 28, a Municipal planner, appeared before the Anti-Corruption Court in Nakasero on April 25, 2025.
They were charged before Principal Grade One Magistrate Paul Mujuni. They denied the charges and were remanded to Luzira prison until May 2, 2025.
The prosecution led by senior state Attorney Terpista Nam from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions alleges that between October 2023 and May 2024, while employed as an accountant at Ntungamo Municipal Council, Gadala, irregularly authorised payments totaling sh33.4 million to himself and Ssozi.
The prosecution further alleges that, during the same period, Gadala abused his position as municipal accountant to misappropriate sh11.6 million of government funds to which he had access by virtue of his office.
According to the prosecution, the accused conspired to commit the offence of embezzlement.
Additionally, the prosecution contends that, with intent to secure an unlawful gain, Gadala deliberately manipulated the Integrated Financial Management System (IFMS) to process unauthorised payments totalling sh33.4 million to himself and Ssozi.
