PAKWACH - One of four prisoners who escaped while being moved from court back to prison in Pakwach district has been rearrested, Police said.
The four reportedly fled while boarding a prisons truck after an appearance at Pakwach Grade One Magistrates Court Tuesday evening.
"It was a normal court session, and the prisoners were retiring to the prison (Ragem Prison) using the truck when the four decided to escape," said Josephine Angucia, the West Nile Police spokesperson.
The original four escapees were named as David Ofoyrwoth, Simon Peter Atipo, Benson Guma Mambo and Vincent Wathum.
They were on prison remand, accused of stealing motor vehicles and defilement, among other charges.
Wathum was rearrested while three remain at large.
Angucia said a case of escape from lawful custody was registered at Pakwach Police Station following the escape.
‘’We are trying to trace the suspects under CRB08/2023 and we ask the public to co-operate with us," she said, urging people to help track the fugitives.
The public has been urged to report to the nearest Police station, prisons office or any other authority in case of any leads.
