MBALE - Members of Parliament on the committee of Finance, Planning and Economic Development visited the Sino-Uganda Mbale Industrial Park on Friday for an oversight exercise on the progress of development at the facility.

The MPs led by their Chairperson, Dr. Keefa Kiwanuka, who is also the Kiboga County East Legislator, toured the 619 hectares facility currently housing 20 operating factories under the supervision of the Uganda Investment Authority (UIA).

Speaking to journalists during an interview, Dr. Kiwanuka alluded that his committee, which is responsible for the scrutinizing and appropriation of funds, has been allocating funds for the establishment and operation of industrial parks to speed up industrial development in the country.

“We are impressed with the works in this industrial park. We didn’t know that we are now producing televisions and smartphones in Uganda. We didn’t know that companies are coming from all around the world to start businesses here.”

Kiwanuka said the committee is very optimistic about the future of Uganda, urging those criticizing the government and saying all sorts of negative things to visit the Industrial park and see what is being achieved there.
