A total of eight inmates in Kampala city-based Luzira upper prison and Mbarara city-based prison have passed the 2024 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) in Division One, New Vision Online has learnt.
The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) says 71 candidates were registered at the Uganda Government Upper Prison School, Luzira. This is two inmates more than those registered in 2023.
"Of the 71 candidates who registered, 59 candidates sat, 4 passed in Division 1, 36 obtained Division 2, 13 obtained Division 3, 6 obtained Division 4, and none were ungraded; while 12 did not sit for the examination," UNEB says.
UNEB executive secretary Dan Odongo on January 23, 2025, reported to First Lady and the Minister of Education and Sports Mrs Janet Museveni. This was during the official release of PLE results at State House Nakasero in Kampala.
Mbarara
According to Odongo, at Mbarara Main Prison Inmates Primary School, 37 candidates were registered and they all sat.
"Of those, 4 obtained Division 1; 20 are in Division 2, 10 are in Division 3 while three are in Division 4. None were ungraded. All candidates were male," Odongo said.
0ver 90 passed PLE
According to Odongo, 91.8% of the 786,981 registered candidates who sat for the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) in 2024 passed and are fit to join secondary school.
He said 397,589 passed in Division Two, Division Three (165,284), Division Four (75,556), while 64,251 were ungraded or scored Grade ‘U’.
