Police in Kamuli district, under the Busoga North region, have recovered two guns and arrested nine individuals in an intelligence-led operation.
Speaking to New Vision on Sunday, March 23, Busoga North police spokesperson Micheal Kasadha said the suspects, currently detained at Kamuli Central Police Station, will be charged with aggravated robbery.
Kasadha stated that the arrests were made during an intelligence-led operation conducted on March 22, 2025.
During the operation, police recovered two guns, two magazines, and other suspected stolen items.
Among those arrested is Grace Mugaya, alias Jordan Lwambaaga, a clinical officer, along with Susan Kwagala and Godfrey Mukasa, all residents of Butongole village in Namalemba parish, Bugweri district.
Others include Godfrey Ayazika, Godfrey Aziz Namugona, and Boyi Sosi, also from Butongole village in Namalemba parish.
Additionally, Fred Wambi from Bukolobe zone, Kasaigo ward in Northern Division, Kamuli Municipality, Henry Wamubiligwe of Bulumba village in Bikumba B parish, and Step Basalirwa from Kawete, Namugalwe sub-county in Iganga district were also arrested.
Kasadha said the criminal gang is suspected to be behind the recent wave of aggravated robberies that have affected the entire Busoga sub-region.
Initial findings indicate that on March 20, 2025, at around 10:00 am Fred Wambi was spotted transporting items suspected to be guns from Namwendwa to Bukolobe cell, Kasaigo ward in Kamuli Municipality, where the operation was launched.
According to intelligence reports, on March 21, 2025, Wambi transported the suspected items to his brother’s residence in Bugweri district, where he was being harboured by his brother, Grace Mugaya.
“The two brothers were arrested together with other associates, and upon search, our police team recovered two guns and two magazines of ammunition,” Kasadha said.
Other recovered items include two motor vehicles—a Land Cruiser, registration number UAZ 656B, and a Toyota Hiace taxi, registration number UDR 580P—along with vehicle number plates, two flat-screen TVs, and four new mattresses.
Kasadha added that investigations are ongoing and a serious manhunt is still underway to apprehend more suspects.
He commended the community for working closely with the police and sharing information that led to this breakthrough.
