Police in the West Nile region have condemned the rising cases of mob justice, following the murder of two youths on May 6, 2025, at Ewanyapa Cell, Pokea Ward, Ayivu West Division in Arua city, at around 11:00 pm.
According to police, one of the deceased, identified as Taban Olija, 22, a resident of Air Field-Mutukula and son of Obongi, was suspected of stealing a motorcycle from a local boda-boda rider, which he allegedly sold to another man, Philiam Anguyo, of the same area.
West Nile Police spokesperson Collins Asea said a case file was opened under SD 22/6/5/2025 and CRB: 087/2025.
He said officers who responded to the scene conducted a thorough inspection and properly documented the incident.
Asea added that post-mortems were conducted on the two victims of the mob attack at Arua Regional Referral Hospital.
He appealed to members of the public to cooperate with the police and share any information that could help clarify the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
The police publicist also urged parents to instil discipline in their children and guide them away from criminal behaviour.
In a related incident, the family of Santino Afeku, 25, who was killed by a mob at Obofia Early Childhood Development Centre in Ejiovu Cell, Otrevu Ward, Leju Town Council, Terego District, opted not to pursue the case.
However, they have joined local leaders in condemning the brutal murder of their son.
The mob reportedly attacked Afeku, a resident of Ejavu Cell in Leju Town Council, on Tuesday, after allegedly discovering that he had cut through the fence of the Centre.
Police in Terego are still searching for the suspects involved in the mob killing.
