St. Peter's Cathedral Convention Ground buzzed with activity as hundreds gathered to witness the consecration and enthronement of Rev. Canon Jacob Ateirweho as the 6th Bishop of Bunyoro Kitara Diocese in Hoima city.
Over 40 Anglican bishops, including retired clergy, attended Sunday’s ceremony, led by Archbishop Stephen Kaziimba, the head of the Church of Uganda. Bishop Nathan Ahimbisibwe of South Ankole Diocese delivered a sermon urging attendees to "believe in Christ and serve Him."

The event was graced by numerous government dignitaries, including members of Parliament, as well as visitors from dioceses across Uganda and beyond, all eager to witness this significant occasion.

This ceremony marked the end of a four-month wait following the House of Bishops' election of Canon Ateirweho as the new Bishop, succeeding Samuel Kahuma, who retired after eight years of service.
Prior to his election, Ateirweho served as the Vicar of All Saints Town Parish in Hoima City.

In preparation for his new role, the incoming Bishop had been on a retreat with Bishop Nathan Ahimbisibwe of the South Ankole Diocese.

This orientation familiarised him with the responsibilities of his new position and the hierarchy within both the Diocese and the broader Anglican community.
Who is Ateirweho?
Ateirweho was born on August 24, 1968, at Hoima Hospital in Hoima District. He committed his life to Christ on April 5, 1991.

His journey in the clergy began when he was ordained as a Deacon on February 5, 2006, and later as a Priest on July 23, 2006.

Ateirweho is married to Irene Kobusinge, and together they have five children. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Divinity from Uganda Christian University.
