Rotary installs Kitakule as new District 9213 governor

JINJA - Rotarian Geoffrey Martin Kitakule has been installed as the new Governor of Rotary District 9213 at a glamorous event held in Jinja city.

Kitakule, who serves as group head of strategic operations at Letshego Africa Group, was installed as District Governor for the 2025–2026 term during a ceremony at the Civil Service College of Uganda in Jinja on April 12 2025.

The installation was conducted by the Rotary International President’s Special Representative to the 2025 District Conference of District 9213, PDG David Osei Amankwah. More than 1,200 Rotarians from across the district gathered to witness and celebrate the occasion. Kitakule will officially assume office on July 1st, 2025.

The event began with a District Governor’s Banquet hosted by the Rotary Club of Kampala Naalya. Rotarians and invited guests embraced the night’s theme with dazzling outfits, creating an atmosphere of elegance and glamour.

Entertainment was provided by Russell Fox, a psychological illusionist from South Africa, whose breathtaking magic captivated the audience, and belly dancer Valentino of Dance with Valentino.

Following the buffet dinner, outgoing District Governor Anne Nkutu presented certificates of appreciation to platinum sponsors and other contributors to the 100th District Conference. She also recognised notable individuals with gifts. 

Michael Nuwagaba was announced as President of the Year, and his club, Rotary Club of Bweyogerere, was named Club of the Year — an announcement that was met with ululation from the audience.

She expressed gratitude to all who supported her during her term, including PDG Robert Waggwa Nsibirwa, Rotary International District Nominee Emmanuel Katongole, and Magical Vice Governor Mike Sebalu.

A joyful procession led by members of the Rotary Club of Kampala South accompanied the incoming Governor, Kitakule, to the podium, dancing to a traditional Kisoga tune following his introduction by Governor Nkutu.

Kitakule and his fellow club members then performed a lively dance, including the iconic Wipolo song by Pastor Okudi.

In his inaugural address, Governor Kitakule reflected on his personal journey and reiterated Rotary’s global impact, particularly its efforts to eradicate polio. He pledged to work closely with club presidents across District 9213 to advance Rotary’s mission of service and community transformation.

He also promised to dedicate the coming year to advancing Rotary’s humanitarian goals both locally and globally.

The evening concluded with a ceremonial cake-cutting, where Kitakule was joined by outgoing Governor Nkutu, RIPPR Amankwah, RIDN Katongole, DRR Simeo Ssebukulu, DRRE Nahabwe Abesage, and Fabian Kasi.

Among the notable guests were Deputy Chief Justice Flavian Zeija, Busoga Diocesan Bishop Paul Samson Naimanhye Mukembo, PDG Steven Mwanje, PDG Tusu Tusubira, and PDG Robert Waggwa Nsibirwa.
