Security forces in Karamoja have been lauded for their unrelenting efforts to bring peace in the region hit by chronic insecurity.

In a message to the believers of Christ on Good Friday, while commemorating the “Way of the Cross” in Moroto town, Catholic priest Fr Micheal Lubega observed that the soldiers were doing good to ensure that stability returns to Karamoja among other areas in the country.

“I would like to dedicate the lives of soldiers who have risked their lives to protect the lives and property of Ugandans to God,” he said.

Lubega asked the Christians to pray for those who have lost their lives fighting to protect the entire country adding that their souls need to be dedicated to God so as to rest in eternity.

The priest's sentiments are in line with Karamoja diocesan bishop Joseph Abura who said Karamoja residents must ensure that peace thrives in the region.

“No one will bring peace to Karamoja, not even the security forces, but the people,” he said, adding that the peace ushered by forces will always be temporary.

Abura rallied the community to take the initiative to own peace saying the forces were just trying to heal the symptoms.

Thus, the Karimojong should understand what should be done by bringing peace.
