Serere District Council has approved a total budget of sh43.275 billion for the 2025/2026 financial year, with the education sector receiving the largest allocation.
Joseph Linos Opio, the secretary for finance, planning, administration, and investment, confirmed the approval took place on May 27, 2025, during a council session held at the district council hall, chaired by the Serere district speaker.
Opio noted that the approved budget reflects a decrease of sh893.795 million compared to the previous financial year.
He revealed that the education sector will receive the largest share, sh22.328 billion, followed by the health sector, which has been allocated sh6.851 billion. Additionally, 68.82% of the total budget, amounting to sh29.734 billion, will be used for the payment of salaries, pensions, and gratuity.
Opio also disclosed that the council approved a five-year development plan covering the 2025/2026 to 2029/2030 financial years.
He added that the 2025/2026 budget will be funded through contributions from the central government, local revenue, and other sources.
Opio called upon residents to support the district's revenue-generating efforts to ensure the successful implementation of the budget.
For the 2024/25 financial year, Serere District Council passed a sh43.492bn budget.
