“People in authority who oppress the innocent children of God as they try to defend their greed, be reminded that with the resurrection of Jesus Christ, there is sure hope that you are headed to shame,” Bishop Odongo said.

The Anglican Bishop of Soroti Diocese, Kosea Odongo, has used Easter prayers to call on leaders and security operatives to exercise the power entrusted to them responsibly.

“People in authority who oppress the innocent children of God as they try to defend their greed, be reminded that with the resurrection of Jesus Christ, there is sure hope that you are headed to shame,” Bishop Odongo said.

Presiding over a service attended by hundreds of Anglican faithful at St Peter’s Cathedral in Soroti city, the outspoken cleric noted that security operatives have on many occasions gone too far in torturing citizens.

“When the innocent people are tortured by those in authority like what we see the police of Uganda do, they are supposed to keep the law and order but what they do is different. It’s a question of time before creation will end,” Odongo said, as his congregation cheered him on.

He explained that the suffering Jesus, the King of Kings, was subjected to ended at the resurrection—and so too, he said, will the suffering caused by tyrants come to an end.

“They will also end up in prison one day, and tyranny will be history one day,” the tough-talking bishop said.

Turning his focus to the corrupt, the bishop urged them to repent before the return of the Lord, whose resurrection was being commemorated.

“Stop being corrupt, the thieves should stop stealing, the brutal should know that their time is up and their shame is imminent,” Odongo preached.
