The Microfinance Support Centre is set to take leaders of Emyooga SACCOs in Soroti city on a benchmarking visit following reports of poor performance.

This decision comes amid growing concerns over challenges in loan disbursement, particularly cases involving members who are reluctant to repay borrowed funds.

Launched in August 2019 as a presidential initiative, Emyooga aims to transition 68% of Ugandan households from subsistence to market-oriented production, with a focus on job creation and improved household incomes.

Baker Nambali, the zonal manager at the Microfinance Support Centre, said a select group of SACCO leaders would be taken to Greater Masaka for benchmarking.

Meanwhile, George Tukei, the city commercial officer, emphasised the value of the visit, saying it will allow SACCO leaders in Soroti to see how the initiative has transformed lives in other regions.
